How To Emotionally Recover After Thanksgiving

empaths self-care routine Nov 01, 2023

The holidays are upon us!

A part of you might be dreading the extra stress, unpleasantness, and emotional overload that can sometimes accompany holiday gatherings.

As an Empath or sensitive person, the holidays can leave you feeling drained and overwhelmed. So, I thought that I'd discuss how to detox physically and emotionally this holiday season.

Empaths tend to pick up energy and emotions from other people like a sponge. Plus, with all the other chaotic things going on in the world, it could be an emotionally fueled holiday.

Separating yourself from negative energy, judgment, and returning to your center are important to restore your sense of inner peace. If you don't clear out the negative energy that you've absorbed from others, then it can affect your own personality and energy level.

Here are a few things you can do to start an emotional detox today.

 1) Ditch the leftovers

It can be tempting to eat all the yummy leftovers from parties and gatherings, but chances are they're full of things that you may be intolerant to like wheat/gluten, dairy, corn or sugar. These are some of the top food allergens and intolerances. Exposing yourself to these can cause a whole range of symptoms including bloating, fatigue, headaches/migraines, insomnia and mood changes. These foods tend to be low vibrational and can make you feel worse. To combat the indulgence of the holidays, make sure that you drink plenty of water and try to eat fresh, whole foods.

 2) Take a salt bath

Salt is a great purifier. The crystalline matrix of the salt absorbs any negativity from your aura that you may have absorbed. You can use any type of salt, but I like to use Epsom salt. It has the extra benefit of soothing any sore muscles. Add 1-2 cups of Epsom salt to your bath and soak as long as you like. You can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oils for an extra soothing effect.

 3) Cord cutting

Whenever we interact with others, we attach energetic "cords" to them and vice versa. If these cords are of pure love, then great! However, when people are negative, fighting, judgmental, or narcissistic, then you don't want that kind of energy affecting yours.

If you don't sever or remove these cords, then you're open to others stealing your energy and affecting your mood. Cords can be cut or removed in a few ways.

One of the simplest is to wave your hand starting from your head down to your legs saying, "I'm now cutting (or removing) cords that are not for my best and highest good".

You can also visualize your aura in your mind's eye and "scan" for any cords that may be attached to you. Then, imagine scissors or a sword cutting the cords away from you.

 4) Get back to your self-care routine

It's important to get back to your regular self-care routines as quickly as possible. Restoring your inner peace is a top priority!

When you're busy, your energetic and spiritual care is often neglected. Meditate, pray, read, journal, and rest are great places to start when you need to have an emotional detox. Don't let conflicts or the emotions of others affect your balance!
